How the great M Johnson couldn't see that Bolt didn't need that speed resistance to break his WR. MJ's PB was 10,10 aprox, so he needed a lot of resistance to make his 19,32, but this guy could've ran easily in 9,50!! It is still not a big margin for a pure sprinter, but Bolt is suposed to be precisely a specialist of the 200 m!!
GUSTEL Says: January 7th, 2009 at 04:40:32
That's kind of true about the basketball statement, height gets guys into the NBA who wouldn't ever be in it if they were 6'2 or something. I mean if I was 7'3 with my skillset I could be ballin it up right now.
But you're completely right about Bolt, all that matters in sprinting is speed, doesn't matter if he's tall/short, everybody has to run the same distance.
Fitz Says: January 7th, 2009 at 05:03:31
Thats not completely true, some people are fast when there say 12 but if you grow tall when your young you don't as control over your body usain was fully devolped by the time he grew tall. This has been proven so it works to an advantge
SALMONEUS Says: January 7th, 2009 at 05:26:30
Here we learn Usain's height wasn't necesscarily an advantage, but at disadvantage. He work really hard over came a mountain. This is no easy thing, NBA dudes like Kobe or Lebron could never imagine to run this fast, and those guys are fast and strong guys.
DIBE Says: January 7th, 2009 at 05:49:29
and that creates your turnovers so usain bolt is very very fast and that is some of because his height (which is not that big of a factor) and his natural talent and speed. MY parents always tell me this.."you are born a sprinter" but you can be taught to sprint but you still need talent. so height can help him alittle but it just means he has to work harder and have faster turnovers and armswings and folds.

quadassio, i am not trying to down you but educate you in the world of track... i run track and i run the 100m 200m and 400m and longer legs has nothing to do with your speed because when i was in my younger days and by young i mean 7-13 i was the shortest person in my age group and yes i won all of my races but my point is that i won against taller people.. it is actually a disadvantage because the taller you are the quicker you have to get your legs off the ground then slam them back down
DeMarcus Says: January 7th, 2009 at 08:30:22
also in basketbal the federation was talking once about limitating the height of players..and i guess they do that the maximum should be at 2,20m(am not sure). in other sport like boxing they put cathegories, in this sens i find it not fair that bolt should be alowd to run against frater. if bolt was tal as normal i dont beleave he would equalize 19,3s of Michael
MUATA Says: January 7th, 2009 at 09:16:20
So what you're saying is that it's not fair that he's the world's fastest man because he is tall. SO, ONE CAN ALSO SAY it's not fair that someone like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a better basketball player than Spud Webb. So in other words, someone like kareem shouldn't be allowed to play in the NBA let alone compete in the Olympics because he is taller than an average basketball player because *sarcastically* it must be his height alone that makes him so good.
MELINA Says: January 7th, 2009 at 09:39:19
Actually it has nothing to really do with weight. But height does play a factor. Imagine a 20 ft person running against a 4 ft person.(Just an illustration, don't be an asshole about it) A 4ft person would get dust. Longer legs can gain more ground so he doesn't have to run as hard a shorter people.
Iliana Says: January 7th, 2009 at 10:25:17
WTF ?
Usain Bolt is a 200m runner and Johnson a 200-400m runner.
Johnson never did a 100m under 10 seconds but on 200-400 he's a f**** beast .
Griorgair Says: January 7th, 2009 at 10:48:16
Michael Johnson and usain bolt are both fast. michael used to be the fastest 100 and 200m thn usain broke them hmm i think these two should have a run xD
Amaris Says: January 7th, 2009 at 11:11:15
everybody say tal people are not souple to run fast, but i dont see that on bolt, he is souple, and then being too tal what i find not fair..again the great Michael spended so many years before he run 19,3s, bolt he just start runing, only 21 years, none knows him and so al of sudden he equalise that 19,3 !!witch a lot of people were thinking that record of 19,3 wil stand for ever. u find this fair/normal?
Rob Says: January 7th, 2009 at 11:34:14
Fighting is a whole different sport, weight classes are need. In sprints, fast people are around 6 foot, taller people are generally not as quick. If it was because of Usain's height alone (and not his speed) than all the sprinters in the Olympics would be tall.
Leah Says: January 7th, 2009 at 11:57:13

Jennyann Says: January 7th, 2009 at 13:06:10
bolt is too tal,not norma, otherwise he would never equalise the 19,3 of the great Michael. the fifa should verbied bolt to run against normal guys, they should change the rules in athletics like in boxing for example, u cant let a guy of 50 kg to fight against someone of 100kg..bolt also with 2m tal is not fair to see him runing against frater
