For 30 years, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been not only biting the hand that feeds them but chewing it up and spitting it out as well. With tunes like 'Don't Do Me Like That', and 'I Won't Back Down', Tom Petty isn't shy about standing up for himself. Although his defiant attitude may have clashed with the music Industry through the years, it's that same spirit that has made his career flourish. Fast Focus showcases an Outlaw who continues to sing about moral decay and social Injustice.

Recent refugees who escaped Chinese torture in Tibet and arrived in Dharamsala, India to an uncertain future. In light of the recent events in Tibet I've decided to post the entire documentary I shot in India about Tibetan refugees who had just escaped from Chinese torture in Tibet. It's available at Netflix, and other online areas, but it's more important that the words of these eyewitnesses is put into the public airspace. Tibetans have been tortured, beaten and jailed since the Chinese invaded their country, I have footage of a doctor who left because he could no longer sterilize Tibetan woman in good conscience. Most of these interviews are children or monks - their stories are heartbreaking. I also feature HH The Dalai Lama, Robert Thurman, Grammy winner Yungchen Llamo, the Nechung Monks, the State oracle of Tibet, the 17th Karmapa and others. I couldn't put the entire hour long movie at one time, but it's in 5 edited clips of ten minutes each on youtube, and the other clips will soon appear. Long live the great Tibetan culture and people, and please pray for Tibet.

++ Discussion on PangeaDay.org ++ Directed by Zach Niles and Banker White (USA) The remarkable story of a group of six Sierra Leonean musicians who come together to form a band while living in a West African refugee camp. First-time filmmakers Zach Niles and Banker White started SodaSoap Productions in 2002 in support of their the documentary film 'Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars' (2006). "SodaSoap" comes from the title of an All Stars song that encourages people to take pride in what they can produce on their own. It has become a guiding artistic theme for the duo, who are recipients of a 2008 Creative Capital Foundation Grant for "We Own TV," a collaborative media project that promotes self-expression through visual media by bringing filmmaking education and equipment to Sierra Leonean youth. Project participants will collaboratively create and produce their own independent media which will be distributed via "We Own TV's" broadcast and online partners. Zach and Banker also continue to work closely with their friends "Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars" who, since the release of the film have become international stars and strident advocates for refugee rights. The SodaSoap Productions schedule is full as planning is under way to record a new album with the band later this year and documentary projects in Haiti and Cuba are currently in production. If the refugee is today's tragic icon of a war-ravaged world, then "Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars," airing on PBS's P.O.V. series on June 26, 2007, featuring a reggae-inflected band born in the camps of West Africa, represents a real-life story of survival and hope. The six-member Refugee All Stars came together in Guinea after civil war forced them from their native Sierra Leone. Traumatized by physical injuries and the brutal loss of family and community, they fight back with the only means they have — music. The result, as shown in "Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars," is a tableau of tragedy transformed by the band's inspiring determination to sing and be heard. A Diverse Voices Project co-production. The plethora of refugees from Turkey and beyond who flooded Greece in the 1920s had profound effects on the musical life of the country especially in regards to its urban music. I high number of very talented singers and dancers of Anatolian origin dominated the Athens recording industry. Besides of course the various forms of Greek song recorded, the refugees at times recorded old and even newer Turkish songs much beloved by the refugee populations Featured here are the singers Kostas Nouraos, Andonis Dalgas, Roza Eskenazi, Marika Ninou, Theodoros Demirtzioglou and Panayiotis Efstathiou singing both urban and rural songs.

A Macedonian-Canadian documentary by the Association of the Refugee Children from the Aegean Macedonia - During the Greek Civil War tens of thousands of refugee children ages four to fourteen were rounded up and evacuated to Eastern Block countries (spring of 1948)- because of the fear of the monarcho-fascistic Greek soldiers and of the bombardment of the mainly ethnic Macedonian villages in the North of the Greek state with napalm bombs. Later they were not allowed to return. Greece prepared carefully worded laws to include Greek (by genus only) and exclude Macedonian children from returning. http://www.refugeeallstars.org Here is a short trailer for the documentary film SIERRA LEONE'S REFUGEE ALL STARS. The film tells the remarkable story of Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, a group of musicians who form a band while living in a West African refugee camp. They were forced from their homes by a brutal civil war that took the lives of many of their loved ones and left them with physical and emotional scars that may never heal. But it could never take away their music. Through music they find a place of refuge, a sense of purpose and a source of power. This film follows the band over the course of three years as they make the difficult decision to return to their war-torn country and realize their dream of recording an album of their original music. The story of Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars celebrates the best of the human spirit - the incredible ability of individuals to sustain hope and find forgiveness even in a climate of rage and loss.
